WOMEN OF DISTINCTION: TWO AUGUSTINIAN WOMEN RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP 10 OUTSTANDING WOMEN OF ILOILO CITY.
In a momentous event held on April 25, 2024, two extraordinary Augustinian women were honored for their outstanding contributions to the development of Iloilo City. Ms. Flora Salas, former dean of the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology, and Ms. Maria Lucy Muralla, a multi-talented graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, stood proudly among the top 10 outstanding women of Iloilo City.

A Renaissance Woman with a Passion for Empowerment

Ms. Maria Lucy Muralla’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. Graduating with honors as cum laude in 1992 in Bachelor of Science in Psychology, she embarked on a path of excellence in various domains. Alongside her academic pursuits, Ms. Muralla’s accomplishments as a five-time national martial arts champion and a black belter 1st-dan holder in Arnis exemplify her dedication and discipline. She is also a Toastmaster and a yoga instructor.
Adding another layer to her extraordinary talents, Ms. Muralla is an accomplished musician proficient in twelve instruments. Her involvement in the Conservatory of Music during her university years showcases her unwavering passion for the arts

She is the 3rd Vice President of the Iloilo City Host Lions Club, the Corresponding Secretary of Iloilo City Zonta 1 Club, and President of Iloilo City Toastmasters International Club. With over two decades of experience as licensed guidance counselor, psychometrician, psychologist, academic professor, and labor expert, she has dedicated her career to empowering others and advocating for women’s empowerment, gender equality, and children’s rights.

With a notable career spanning decades, Ms. Flora Segovia Salas has left a permanent mark on the field of pharmacy and beyond. A very well respected and admired professor and former dean of the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology in 1964. In her 50 years of service in the University, she was given the title Dean Emeritus and served as Director to the Human Resources Development Office and Assistant to the University Rector for Academic Affairs until 2005. She has received the esteemed recognition as one of the Outstanding Augustinians of the Century in 2004.

Ms. Salas’s exceptional leadership was further manifested through her role as the former president of the Philippine Pharmaceutical Association, where she contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession in the national and local level. Her involvement as an organizing member of the Mother Butler Mission Guilds in Iloilo City demonstrates her unwavering commitment to philanthropy and community development.
