Triumph in Microbiology: Mr. Jazon Harl D. Hidrosollo Takes Home Best Research Poster Award at the 2023 Taiwan Society for Microbiology Annual Scientific Conference

In the landscape of microbiology research, the 2023 Taiwan Society for Microbiology Annual Scientific Conference took center stage as a platform for the exchange of groundbreaking findings and innovative approaches to combat emerging pathogens. Among the distinguished researchers is Jazon Harl D. Hidrosollo, who clinched the Best Research Poster Award in the Clinical Microbiology category.

Hidrosollo’s research presentation focuses on discovering alternative treatments for a new emerging pathogen, Staphylococcus lugdunensis, recognized as the most virulent member of coagulase-negative species. His research group delved into the realm of chemical synthesis, creating an indolenine-substituted pyrazole small molecule that inhibit bacterial growth by disrupting the membrane integrity function and significantly inhibits biofilm formation of an oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus lugdunensis bacteremia isolate. Currently, his research group is immersed in the exploration of the molecular targets of this pioneering small molecule under the mentorship of Prof. Cheng-Yen Kao, PhD, and Prof. Chee Chin Fei, PhD.

Hidrosollo graduated with pride from the University of San Agustin with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science in 2014 and a Master’s in Medical Technology in 2020. It was in 2021 when he pursued a Ph.D in Microbiology at the prestigious National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taipei City, Taiwan propelled by a scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education – Taiwan.

His journey serves as an inspiring narrative for the younger generation within the Augustinian Community, demonstrating that commitment and hard work can pave the way for significant contributions to the scientific community. With commendable progress and accolades, his research is well-positioned to not only advance the field but also inspire others to follow in his footsteps, forging new paths in the relentless pursuit of understanding and combating harmful pathogens.
