In celebration of Women’s Month last March, the Mayor of Iloilo City pays tribute to some of the outstanding women of Iloilo and those who made significant contributions to the community. Among these exceptional women are Augustinian graduates who left a mark in their respective fields. 

HONORING FLORA SEGOVIA SALAS: A PIONEER IN PHARMACY AND EDUCATION

A remarkable educator, pharmacist, and mentor, Miss Flora Segovia Salas, has transformed lives and shaped the future of healthcare education in Iloilo City and beyond. Her academic career started as a chemistry laboratory instructor, until she rose to the esteemed position of Dean Emeritus of the  College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology at the University of San Agustin. 

Her relentless commitment to education and public service has garnered numerous accolades, including recognition from the Iloilo City Government as one of the top “Top 10 Outstanding Women of Iloilo City.” This prestigious honor reflects her invaluable contributions in shaping the future of pharmacy and medical technology education and motivating young Ilonggos to strive for excellence in their chosen fields.

HONORING DR. ERLINDA S. GANZON-NARET: AN ILONGGA SCIENTIST ADVANCING AQUACULTURE AND FISHERIES

Dr. Erlina S. Ganzon-Naret is an esteemed scientist in Aquaculture and Fisheries. Dr. Ganzon-Naret has devoted her life to scientific excellence, earning the prestigious Career Scientist I title in 2014, awarded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Civil Service Commission’s Scientific Career System. Her remarkable contributions have elevated fisheries research and aquaculture innovation, placing Iloilo on the map as a center of scientific advancement.

Dr. Ganzon-Naret’s journey is a testament to resilience and excellence. From her early years as a TIMAWA scholar of the Iloilo City Government, she excelled in her studies, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of San Agustin.

HONORING MARIA LUCY U. MURALLA: A BEACON OF EXCELLENCE AND SERVICE

A woman of steadfast dedication,  remarkable leadership, transformative impact, and an Outstanding Ilongga, Maria Lucy U. Muralla embodies the values of integrity, resilience, and excellence, championing initiatives that uplift communities, inspire future generations, and enhance the welfare of our people.

Graduating with honors as cum laude in 1992 in Bachelor of Science in Psychology, her visionary leadership and commitment to public service,  has been instrumental in empowering individuals and strengthening institutions. Her work exemplifies the vital role of women in nation-building, demonstrating that when women thrive, society flourishes.

Their legacies are proof that together, we can foster an environment where every woman can thrive and reach greater heights. Let us recognize and support the women in our lives and communities who continue to break barriers and pave the way for future generations.
